3 Tips for Better Time Management

Tips for better time management can be useful in this busy world, this blog considers three tips on how you can improve your time management.

  1. Prioritise your tasks
    • Write a list of the things you have to do and prioritise the most important ones to be done first.
    • Set goals for what you want to achieve and be realistic with what you can achieve in the time you have.
    • Set a time limit on your tasks so that the task doesn’t expand into more and more time. Once the time is up leave it and move on and come back to it.
    • Set yourself a deadline for task that could go on forever or be constantly put on the back burner.
    • Consider if all tasks need to be done are there some that can be dismissed and left undone, for example do you have to reply to all emails or texts are there some that you don’t need to reply to. Can any tasks be delegated to someone else, for instance could you get your shopping delivered, could you ask a partner to do their own ironing, could you put the car through the car wash rather than doing it by hand.  Are there jobs that could be deferred to another time. For example, do you have to clear out the garage now, is it something that could be scheduled for next month, or next year.

  • When you have a lot of jobs to do, it can be overwhelming and it can be tempting to keep working until they are all done, we can have a mindset “once I get this done it will all be ok I will be on top of things,” the temptation can be to keep going at the expense of rest, relaxation and exercise. Whilst we think we are doing well and achieving things, by not resting, relaxing and taking exercise we can be having a negative impact on our mental health, overwhelming ourselves and essentially being less productive.
