Anger Management & Paul Carter Counselling. Some people struggle with their behaviour when they are feeling angry. Feeling angry is a normal response to something when a person feels hurt or attacked. It is what the person does as a response to their anger which can cause problems for themselves and those around them. Counselling can help clients to change this behaviour and help them realise there are alternative ways of reacting to these situations. Anger Management & Paul Carter Counselling can help.

There are three types of anger, Passive Aggression, Open Aggression and Assertive Anger.

Passive Aggression

If someone struggles to admit that they are angry or shies away from confrontation they may be passive aggressive. Behaviour that is passive aggressive are things such as the silent treatment, sulking, procrastinating, and pretending that everything is okay. People who are passive aggressive often feel the need to be in control.

Open Aggression

At the opposite end of the spectrum are people that tend to lash out in anger and rage and be verbally or physically aggressive. For instance, this would include, fighting, bullying, shouting, bickering, sarcasm, criticism, accusing and blackmailing. Again People who are openly aggressive often feel the need to be in control.

Assertive Anger

Assertive anger is healthy, controlled and confident. When you are assertively aggressive you talk and listen openly wanting to deal with the issue at hand. It can help a relationship to evolve and grow stronger. Assertive anger involves thinking before you speak, being open to the other side of the argument, being patient and listening and not shouting. It means that you care about the relationship you have.
